Pure client-side compression re-encodes pages to optimized JPEG images. This delivers dramatic size reduction (50–80%) for scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs. Important: Compression flattens pages into raster images: text becomes unsearchable and unselectable, interactive forms, bookmarks, and links are lost, and screen-reader accessibility is reduced. Pure vector/text PDFs without large images cannot be compressed client-side and will be refused if output size would increase.
